The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), jointly with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), will host the first International Symposium on Grapevine Epidemic Diseases. Pierce’s Disease & Flavescence dorée on the 17th May 2024 in Austin, Texas. This event will gather relevant international academics and specialists from the viticultural sector.
In the framework of the International Year of Vine and Wine, the Symposium is aimed to generate an international debate around the phytosanitary, regulatory, economic, and social aspects associated to two major grapevine epidemic diseases, Pierce’s Disease and Flavescence dorée, and to encourage the discussion about the current state and the perspectives for the health and productivity of the vineyards worldwide.
The symposium is organised in the following four sessions:
Session 1 – Diseases epidemiology and the impact of climate change
Session 2 – Diseases monitoring and control: international standards
Session 3 – Diseases monitoring and control: regulatory frames
Session 4 – Mitigation strategies and economy impact
A round table entitled “Towards an harmonised international strategy” will take place at the end of the symposium to encourage debate about the relevance of collective strategies to face extended challenges and the options to develop an international harmonised regulatory model and will close the symposium.
Furthermore, technical visits will be offered in the region in the framework of the symposium, on the 16th and the 18th May.
Information about registration fees and logistics details will be published soon.
