Arbor Artists Present Festival of Grapes Art Show at Tower Gallery in Grapevine
August 20, 2021 - September 29, 2021
August kicks off grape harvests across Texas, and there is no better way to celebrate than at the “Festival of Grapes” art exhibition inside the Tower Gallery, located at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau World Headquarters Building (636 S. Main St.). The exhibit runs from August 1 through September 25 and features grape-themed artwork by internationally-recognized porcelain art painters and teachers Paula White from Grapevine, Texas; Celeste McCall from Southlake, Texas; Cherryl Meggs from Fredericksburg, Texas; and Cynthia Pinnell from Graham, Texas. They are collectively known as the Arbor Artists.
The Arbor Artists challenged themselves to explore a variety of palettes, surfaces, techniques and designs for painting grapes. This exhibit showcases their paintings and decorative items as well as tea sets, glasses, bowls, pitchers and more.
“With these works, we are harvesting our grapes and showing them to the public,” White said.
Each artwork focuses on grapes in natural or domestic surroundings such as a tray painted with red grapes and garden birds, a vase covered in a waterfall of grapes, and a still life painting of colorful grapes in Grandmother’s bowl. Cherryl Meggs said that painting on a variety of surfaces challenged the artists to consider how to develop their designs to work best on the chosen surface.
“When you paint on a canvas, you are painting a two-dimensional rectangle, while when you paint on a pitcher or a bowl or a glass, you have to think about how the shape and design will work together,” Meggs said. “For example, my wine glasses just lend themselves to grapes.”
In addition to creating works of art, the Arbor Artists are dedicated to art education and the promotion of porcelain art. Each artist brings decades of experience to her in-person seminars and online classes. Currently, White and Meggs continue to teach porcelain art via virtual learning platforms, allowing people around the globe to have access to quality porcelain art instruction.
“I like teaching and painting in porcelain because it is the only eternal hand-painted object,”
Artist Celeste McCall said. “You can put it at the bottom of the ocean for a thousand years and it will never fade.”
Artist Paula White will be painting in the gallery on various days and times throughout the exhibition.
The Tower Gallery, located at 636 S. Main St. is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
